Cyberpunk 2077 Issues

Chad George, Arts & Entertainment

Every year I convince myself this year is gonna be better than the last, only to set myself up for disappointment. 2020 being the worst year so far has set a high bar for what to expect in the coming years. This year has truly opened my eyes to how depressing and lonely my life is. Each day consists of isolating myself in my room watching Twitch and anime and playing video games with the boys. This became an effective way to pass time and cope with quarantine.

So, after 7 years of waiting, Cyberpunk 2077 was announced. I felt what most people describe as happiness. I had hoped that the possibility of something good would happen in 2020, but I was wrong . CD PROJEKT RED’s launch day was a disaster.  There were so many red flags with the release of this game. I chose to ignore them because I thought a game that’s been in development for 7 years would be optimized for old and new gen consoles, and at the minimum run a solid 30 fps.The game performs like it’s in the alpha stage. I knew something was off when CD PROJEKT RED was projecting suspicious behavior –  for example, the multiple delays and not letting people who tested the game early show their footage of the game until launch day.

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t a bad game, but the execution was terrible. CD PROJEKT RED didn’t want to keep delaying the game so they decided to release a game full of bugs. Performance on the new gen consoles and older models had terrible NPC and graphics didn’t always render properly, which interrupted player progression.  As a result of all these issues, Cyberpunk 2077 was removed from the Playstation store until further notice and people who bought the game are going to receive refunds. It’s extremely disappointing to see a game the developers put a lot of time and effort into not reach its maximum potential. Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that was released 56 years ahead of its time and I have faith that by the year 2077 this game will be able to resolve the game’s performance issue. Cyberpunk shines through its story mode with interesting and likable characters this a game heavy with dialogue and multiple possibilities. If Cyberpunk is a game that still interests you, I recommend buying the game on PC and experiencing what the game has to offer with very low expectations.
