2021 NFL Draft

April 30, 2021: The 1st round of the NFL Draft was nothing short of exciting and entertaining. This year’s draft took place in Cleveland, Ohio right outside of FirstEnergy Stadium (home of the Cleveland Browns). Fans and prospects were allowed to attend this event, while players had the choice to attend the draft in Cleveland or stay at home and watch their name be called with their families. Most of the players that were selected in the first round last night were in attendance in Cleveland.

Former Clemson QB Trevor Lawerence was selected No. 1 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars, which was heavily expected along with the New York Jets picking former BYU QB Zach Wilson at No. 2 overall. The San Francisco 49ers kept it a secret for who they were going to pick with the 3rd overall pick; they ended up taking former NDSU QB Trey Lance. The rest of the top 15 picks were: former University of Florida TE Kyle Pitts (No. 4 Atlanta Falcons), former LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase (No. 5 Cincinnati Bengals), former Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle (No. 6 Miami Dolphins), former University of Oregon OT Penei Sewell (No. 7 Detroit Lions), former University of South Carolina CB Jaycee Horn (No. 8 Carolina Panthers), former Alabama CB Patrick Surtain II (No. 9 Denver Broncos), former Alabama WR Devonta Smith (No. 10 Philadelphia Eagles), former OSU QB Justin Fields (No. 11 Chicago Bears), former Penn State LB Micah Parsons (No. 12 Dallas Cowboys), former Northwestern OT Rashawn Slater (No. 13 Los Angeles Chargers), former USC G Alijah Vera-Tucker (No. 14 New York Jets), and lastly former Alabama QB Mac Jones (No. 15 New England Patriots).

Yet another successful NFL Draft is in the books and I personally think this draft class has the most talent and potential out of the previous draft classes. In my opinion, every player I listed above has the potential and talent to become an NFL star. Trevor Lawrence’s rookie contract with the Jaguars is a 4-year deal worth $36 million, which is the most money I’ve ever seen spent on a rookie contract. Rookie contracts are usually worth $10-$16 million and last for 3-4 years. As for New York Jets fans, they had a very good draft. They got the QB they needed in Zach Wilson, an extremely talented WR in Elijah Moore, a very good OL in Alijah Vera-Tucker, and a much needed RB in Michael Carter. The future is very bright for the Jets because of how young the team is. The New York Jets only have 3 players under the age of 30 out of 46. The future is bright for New York Football, including the Giants.
